How the job comes together
Four stages. No mystery.
Dig out and preparation
Unsuitable material is removed and the formation prepared before the sub-base is installed in compacted layers.
Edging and drainage
Kerbs, blocks or other restraints are set firmly, with suitable falls and channels incorporated.
Tarmac surfacing
The base and surface courses are laid and machine-rolled where access allows, creating a dense, even finish.

Good access helps achieve efficient laying and compaction, though restricted sites can still be assessed individually.
Surface water
Falls and drainage are planned before surfacing so water does not collect against the house or run onto the highway.

How long before a new tarmac driveway can be used?+
Light foot traffic is usually possible quickly, but we will advise when vehicles can return based on the weather, materials and installation conditions.
Can tarmac be laid over an old driveway?+
Sometimes existing construction can be retained, but only if it is sound and levels allow. We assess the base first rather than covering defects that could reappear.
Is tarmac suitable for a sloping driveway?+
It can be an excellent option for many sloping sites. The gradient, drainage, edge restraint and safe access all need to be considered during the survey.
